This oil on canvas, painted in 1979, is one of the most emblematic works of the master Fernando Botero and is located in the migration area of Bogota’s El Dorado airport. Measuring five meters high by four meters wide, it refers to the diverse rhythms that characterize Colombian culture and has become the best farewell for locals and foreigners alike.
With instruments in hand, this group of artists seems to be about to fill the whole scene and remind travelers what Colombia sounds like. The work, faithful to the style of master Botero, focuses on form and volume to convey fullness and vitality.
The tapestry was woven over months by artisans from Atelliers Pinton in France and delivered on loan to OPAIN by the airline Viva Colombia and Smurfit Kappa in October 2017. To date, it remains on display at the country’s main airport remembering one of the greatest Colombian artists and his invaluable legacy.
