One of the main achievements during our participation in ‘Impulso Joven (Because Youth Matters)’, in the UNESCO World Youth Fellowships program, has to do with the confirmation of our commitment to social investment that relies on philanthropy but takes it on a more strategic path. Today’s social and environmental challenges demand non-traditional responses to address them, and we are all jointly responsible.

Talking about strategic philanthropy allows us to provide not only funding, but knowledge and valuable capital to expand the social impact of those organizations that have innovative approaches to address current challenges. A vision of high involvement and associativity is the way to create commercial value in young organizations that, in emerging economies like ours, have experienced additional barriers to building a business.

Social impact at all levels

It is not enough to have a positive impact in social terms; all organizations, social or private, must be able to deliver quality and competitive products or services. Beyond the legal nature of the entities, it is essential to create business models that impact the community and the environment, but also leverage the dynamization of the economy, leverage a committed private sector and connect knowledge from the business world with the social sector.

The exchange of goods and services between sectors ensures a re-circulation of financial, technical and professional resources. Participating in ‘Impulso Joven’ allowed us to see first-hand the convergence of social organizations, non-governmental entities and private companies seeking to strengthen their operations to maximize impact and achieve financial sustainability.

But for all this to make sense, there is one element that can no longer be considered an optional extra, but which has increasingly become mainstream, and it has to do with measuring impact. Any powerful narrative starts from the ability to reflect the results and depth of interventions. Measuring not only helps us understand the real benefit of projects, but can be used as an internal tracking and auditing tool to pivot from or increase commitement as necessary, and ensure that resources are targeted more effectively and efficiently.

It is challenging but also exciting to reaffirm our purpose of taking traditional philanthropy to a strategic level, where social investment is the opportunity to be part of the change. It is inspiring to see that together we are building a more equitable and sustainable future!
